The butylamine needs to be handled in a fume cupboard - it smells! The acyl chloride experiment can be demonstrated.

Materials:

1 M ammonia (5 cm3) Butylamine (1 cm3)
Ethyl 4-aminobenzoate (0.5 g) 2 M hydrochloric acid (0.5 cm3)
0.1 M copper(II) sulfate (15 cm3) Ethanoyl chloride (1 cm3)
Full range indicator (a few drops)
Test tubes (9) Dropping pipettes
Spatula 10 cm3 measuring cylinder
